Hate is a hot topic at the moment. It seems like the world is filled with stories of hate. Whether it is hate driving mass shootings or bullying in school or trolling on social media, it seems to be everywhere.

But what drives us to hate? Why does hate seem to be everywhere? Is hate just part of who we are as a society?

If we look at children, do we see them born with hate? No. I observe that children are born with love and hate is something that is developed as we grow and experience life.

So then why does the love we have as children evolve to hate as adults? I think its because even hate has its foundations in love!

When life hasn’t gone the way you thought it would or if you feel yourself an outsider or isolated then hate becomes a vehicle to explain your situation. There is an explanation for what has happened to you and it all makes sense when you hate something, someone or some people. And the good news is that you can find communities of people that hate the same things you do because it explains their situation as well. These communities share their hate and build upon it and sometimes even create theories to explain it. A good example of would be replacement theory.

I would say its rare to find cases where someone that commits a hate crime in isolation without being part of a community of people that share the same hate as themselves. Why would you join a hate community and become a contributor and even commit a hate crime? Just like being a member of any community, to get the respect, admiration and love of the other members of the community.

I believe love is something that we all need to be healthy and balanced. Unfortunately for some of us the opportunity to be loved is difficult and hate becomes a way for us to find love by banding together with like minded haters.

So, in conclusion, the foundation of hate comes from the desire to be loved!
